We begin a new sermon series called "Prayer." As Pastor Bill shares, the most important ministry of the church is prayer. It undergirds all other aspects of the church. Each week, Pastor Bill uses a figure from the Bible to share what the Word teaches about the importance of prayer. This week we saw how prayer was integral to the life of Abraham, a man of faith. Abraham's determination to let God lead his life can encourage us to pray and ask our heavenly Father to lead our lives too.

Happy Father's Day. As fathers, we probably don't get all the fanfare and attention that moms seem to get on Mother's Day. And that's okay. Fathers are the spine of the family; the backbone that provides authority and structure in the home. We fathers are the spiritual umbrella of protection over our families- the least likely to be noticed, yet the most important spiritual component of the home. Pastor Bill challenges us as men and fathers to raise godly children as well as encouraging us to keep our eyes on the heavenly Father.

This week we honor our graduates with a recognition service and a special message by Pastor Bill. He reminds us, as he reminds the graduates to keep our eyes of the goal. What goal really matters in life? Here's what Paul, the apostle said in Philippians 3: 12-14:
" Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, with this goal in mind, I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."Keep your eyes on Him!

We were honored this week with a special guest speaker, Dr. Jamie Smith. He hails from London Bridge Baptist Church in Virginia Beach with a passion for evangelism. Many of our members thanked Dr. Smith for his message as they 'caught' the passion too. The message? Simple: Do you know without a doubt that you will be in heaven with your Savior, at the time of your passing? If you haven't received your free gift of salvation, then, as Dr. Smith shared, you need to do it today. Time is not a tool to be bartered. No man knows the hour of his death. If you have any doubts about your eternal destination, you need to hear Dr. Smith's message!

This week we celebrated Homecoming at our church. It was a time of reflection and celebration. We honored Mrs. Joyce Neighbors 60 years of service see video. Our sermon reminded us to carry on the work that those who have gone on to heaven begun. We have much to learn from their example. We should keep our eyes on Jesus as we carry on the work of the gospel.

What is the definition of compassion? For most people, they would say, "to feel sympathy for someone's circumstances or bad situation." For Christians, God says to go deeper. God says that compassion is an action word. It means to be prepare to take on the burdens of others. Whether that means to minister with food and shelter and material things; or to spend time with someone who is lonely, afraid, or uncertain. Pastor Bill shares the scripture passage in Luke chapter 10 where a fallen man is helped by another who should be his enemy, but treats him like a brother. Where have you shown compassion like this lately?

Oh, just some faces only a mother could love. And then, aren't mothers always going to love their children, no matter what? This week as we celebrate Mother's Day Pastor Bill gives us a view of one mother in the Bible. She was the mother of James and John, the sons of Zebedee. She bravely and humbly asks Jesus to let her sons sit at Jesus' right and left hands in heaven. Why does she do it?
- She wanted her sons to be in the kingdom of God
- She wanted her sons to serve the kingdom of God
- She had high expectations of her sons

Sometimes our Old Testament persons can teach us lessons that we can use in our lives today. Samson is one of those people. In the 14th chapter of Judges, we see where God bestows "mucho" grace on Samson's life. A man who continually disobeyed God, God still used him for His purposes. We, too, disobey God when we choose not to do the right thing. We also sin when we know the right thing to do, and don't do it. Thank God for His grace!

What is "holiness?" It is one of the characteristics of God. Can we say that we can describe the holiness of God? Isaiah could. In chapter six of the book of Isaiah, he describes God and compares himself to the magnificence of God. Pastor Bill shares this message of God's character with us to help us to know how we, too, can be holy.

Life has a way of putting challenges in your path. Challenges that can take the form of suffering, pain, new situations, conflict,... well, you know. You are probably in one or more challenging situations. What do you do? God wants you to take comfort in His Presence. He is the God of Creation, the Ultimate Authority, and the Mighty God of the Universe. With such an impressive characterization, He offers us His love, but more importantly, His help. He doesn't want you to try to live this life without His Presence, His power, and His salvation. Pastor Bill helps us to find comfort in God with this week's message from 2 Corithians, chapter 1.

Find It Here. What Now? Now that you have it what do you do with it? If you are a new Christian, or an older Christian who has rededicated their life, what do you do now? In the Scripture passage of John 21:1-19 we see Peter learning what to do with it as Jesus comes back after his resurrection.
- He didn't know where else to turn prior to Jesus' return. So he went back to his comfort zone. When Jesus appeared, he was moved out of this comfort zone into a new life with challenges
- Peter was called to action. As Christians we are called to minister, witness and to serve selflessly.
- Peter would be called to count the cost. In his case, the cost was his life. He was martyred for being a Christian. We may not be called to die, but we are called to give our lives up to God's will. Our lives are not our own.
