This year we led over 50 children in Bible camp. Each day was packed with activities such as Bible study, crafts, music, swimming and field trips to different places. Our curriculum comes from the High Voltage Kids website . A website dedicated to providing videos, lessons, skits and more for evangelism.
Where, When, Who
Each Wednesday in July, we opened the doors at 7 a.m. and provide a hot breakfast at 8 a.m. Children's leaders from our TeamKIDs program as well as our youth lead the Bible camp. We spend the day with children K4 to 6th grade teaching them about God's love. We want them to know that being at church can be fun.
What??
Fun can come in many forms. From watching "Ban Daid" drink down a frog and carrot shake to trying one ourselves - we had fun! From swimming and running through our homemade slip and slide to bobbing for oranges in jello - we had fun! Taking field trips to the Hampton Space and Air Center, the Portsmouth's Children Museum and going roller skating in Smithfield were more ways we had fun! This year we sponsored a sports camp on the third week. What a blast! Our youth led in basketball, cheerleading, soccer and softball camps. They taught the children how to perform the sport, then led them in a game or cheers. We are definitely doing the sports camp again next year!
Why?
Fun is important, but more important is the message that each of these children belong to their Heavenly Father. He has a plan and a purpose for each of their lives. Every week we spent time with the children teaching them that God created each one for a relationship with Him. Everyone wants to know why they exist. It's an easy question to answer. And it is an important one that we focus on. Each child is so important to God that He asked His Son to die for the wrong choices they make.
