Notes from our youth leader
You guys are great!!!
I'm going to brag on the TSBC youth. You guys did an awesome job leading in worship recently. I've put the link to the service here. I am so very proud, as are all those who attended the service. You planned, practiced, and shared your God-given talents with so many. I thank you, and many others who were blessed by the service thank you!
The Servant’s Life (It Ain’t Flashy—But It’s Real)
What does it mean to be “great”?
Is there a different standard in the eye
of the world verses God’s eye?
Who do you consider to be “great”?
Jesus called his disciples together and said,“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:26-28)
Philippians 2:1-11
Servant ‘Tude: What’s yours—the heart of a servant recognizes that when we serve and love others, we serve and love Christ. (Philippians 2:1-4) God shows us how to live the life of a servant:
Mother Teresa once said in an interview after witnessing a fellow sister spend an entire day bathing the wounds of a dying beggar, “Christ tests the love of His followers by hiding in grotesque disguises to see if we can still see Him.” Can you see Christ in others no matter what the circumstances?1) We must consider others better than ourselves. 2) We must look not only to our own interests but also the interests of others. 3) We must stay alert to the needs of others and how to meet them.
The Servant’s Choice: Jesus could have come as a conquering king but instead He chose to come as a suffering servant, and He turned the world upside down by doing so. (Philippians 2:6-7) We too must choose daily to be a servant.
The Servant’s Sacrifice: Serving is never
convenient and always costs us something.
(Philippians 2:7-8) We must be willing to
lay down our lives for someone else. Also,
it means we lay down our time, our money,
our possessions, and our plans for others.
Servanthood will kill what’s in you that
isn’t like Jesus and will let His life, His
nature, and His identity flow through you.
