Today waking up occurred around 8 and 830. For breakfast some of the group went to a pasty across the street for the hostel. Patrick got a good banana tasting one, Dani got and oddly shaped and texturized one. Peruvian pastries we an experience. We made sure to eat a good breakfast because around 10 we went for a hike up to a water fall.
The missionary (Josh) told us it was about an hour and half...it took us a little longer. The hike was amazing, the view was too. After that we went to an annex of Matucana. Our goal was to meet the people and tell them we were coming back the next day to share Bible stories with them. The people are really confused as to what to believe because Catholics and Jehovah Witnesses have visited them.
In my group I have Tyler C., Erin, and a translator. We were able to make great contacts and were able to sit down and share the story of Nicodemus to an older lady.
Our goal the rest of our time this week is to continue going to this village and telling stories to these people. The three missionaries that we are working with are leaving tomorrow, so the ball is in our court. Which is pretty cool, I've never been on a mission trip were we were 'alone' to say; without local missionaries to guide us.
We are excited because the Holy Spirit is really giving us the words to say and doors are opening. We just need to be in prayer that the people will be able to understand the stories and that we will be able to give them foundations. The missionaries that are here for the summer are working on discipling the already saved local Peruvians by teaching them about Creation and other foundational stories; so that in turn after we are all gone they will be able to teach their neighbors, families, and people living around the area. Discipleship is the key Matucana.
