Last week we considered God's call to us. This week Pastor Bill asks us how we will answer. Our text is based on the response Joseph gave when the angel told him that Mary was pregnant with God's Son. How did Joseph respond? What should we realize about our own answer?

  • First, our plans will change. We will follow God's plan, not necessarily our own.
  • We realize that our Heavenly Father knows best.
  • We need to remember that God is already at work around us. He is asking us to join Him.
God will call you. How will you respond?

How many times in one day do you receive calls? Emails? Texts? Each time, it's a good chance that you are picking up the phone, clicking on an email, opening a text message when you receive it. As quickly as we are to respond to a call from another person, are we the same when it comes to receiving a call from God? When God calls, do we:

  • Consider it a privilege that He has called upon us?
  • Realize that the results will be eternal?
  • Know that the impossible can become the possible with God?
God invites us to join Him as He reaches out with His love. He is waiting for you to respond.

Four little words make all the difference for the Christian. Each word in the phrase has an important meaning by itself. "I am the way," says Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. "I am the way," -today and every day. "I am the way," - the only way to the Father. "I am the way," to heaven, and our glorious eternity. Thank you, Pastor Bill for sharing these important words!

Those in our communities within Southampton County will identify with this week's message. Pastor Bill shares a sermon he entitles, "Facing Life's Great Obstacles." In Exodus chapter 14 the people of Israel are standing at the Red Sea wondering how they will cross. God is doing a miraculous work in and through these people. He is:

  • Preparing them for His Will;
  • Delivering them from the enemy;
  • Providing for their every need;
  • Being glorified through their obedience and His miracles.

Our scripture passage for this week's sermon is John chapter 15 verses 1-8. Using this scripture as a final message from our pastor, Dr. Rob Edwards, he shares with us what a fruit-bearing believer looks like.
A believer who wants to bear the fruit of his Christian walk will:

  • know that God is the source of his strength.
  • listen to the counself of God's Word, the Bible.
  • make time with God his highest priority.
  • understand the consequences of not spending daily time with God.
  • want God to be the focus, not himself.

What is the foundation of the church today? What is the foundation of the believer? There is only one foundation: God's Word. Here is what our pastor shared in his message:

  • Scripture is the only secure foundation for the believer.
  • We must commit ourselves to making God's Word a part of us.
  • The greatest danger facing the church today is "believers" who have abandoned the Word.
  • God's call is clear: "Preach the Word!"

Prodigal Heart. It's a familiar story. A son who simply asks his father for what belongs to him. He just wants to live his own life. What's wrong with that? Here's what Pastor Rob shares about this story in Luke chapter 15:

  • this son forgot that the home he lived in, the clothes he wore and the food he ate were all blessings from his father. The life he lived was blessed, not deserved.

  • this son wanted more. He couldn't be content with what he already had.

  • this young man insisted on leaving a home of peace and joy to look for emotional fixes. Life wasn't excited enough for him. He had to try out the world's pleasures.
  • this son finally realized that contentment would never be found apart from his father.
  • this prodigal son tried to hid his sin, instead of repenting of it and turning back to the right road home.
  • and finally, when all was lost, this young man found forgiveness in the arms of his father.
  • Dr. Rob Edwards reminds us that for us, these statements apply. Contentment will never be found apart from our heavenly Father. Let us try to appreciate all that our Father has done for us.
